Area 10’s Conway retiring; Myers to take helm Jan. 1

Area 10 Agency on Aging, which serves Monroe and Owen counties, will be hiring from within to replace outgoing CEO Kerry Conway when she retires at the end of the year.
Chris Myers was unanimously selected by Area 10’s board of directors to succeed Conway as the nonprofit agency’s CEO, effective Jan. 1, according to a news release.
Myers has been with Area 10 for four years, serving most recently as the chief operating officer. She has overseen implementation of new accounting software and systems, facilities upgrades and improvement, has monitored grant compliance and audits and worked on budgets.
“I have known Chris Myers for decades, and I’m thrilled to have a successor who embraces the agency’s mission with a skill set that guarantees optimal program development and fiscal responsibility,” Conway said in the release.
Area 10 serves more than 500 clients annually, providing resources and care for seniors, people with disabilities and family caregivers in Monroe and Owen counties.
Conway retires after eight years at the helm, hoping now to spend more leisure time with family and friends and indulge in old hobbies.
“I expect my next chapter to include knitting, traveling and political activism,” she said.
Board president Doug Johnson said Myers has a thorough understanding of their clients’ needs and is an excellent choice to lead Area 10 through an ever-evolving and expanding landscape of aging and disability services.
“I have no doubt that she is the right person to take the helm at Area 10,” Johnson said in the release.
Myers has an MPA from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs with concentrations in finance and nonprofit management. She also has 20 years of nonprofit program management experience, and has managed federal, state and local grants and contracts in many program areas in her previous work with IU, the City of Bloomington and the South Central Community Action Program.
“I have been fortunate to work alongside the staff at Area 10, and know how dedicated everyone is to our mission. The future is certain to pose many challenges as our society faces exponential increases in an aging population and providing needed support services with limited resources. I look forward to leading our staff and board in staying true to our mission, to support individuals in continuing to live in their home space of choice as long as they possibly can,” Myers said in the release.
